PROJECT FOR A CYCLE OF TELEVISION DOCUMENTARIES UNDER THE GENERAL TITLE OF "IN THE SERVICE OF THE PEOPLE"

'European House' plans to create a cycle of television documentaries under the general title of 'In the Service of the People'.

The general idea of the cycle is to show the particular characteristics of the democratic processes in various countries.

The real task of this television cycle is to give the Russian citizen greater motivation to make more informed and responsible choices in defense of his own future interests…

For Russia - the problems in the relationship between the functions of power and ordinary people is one of the key problems. The first years of independence in Russia has seen, firstly, the increasing bureaucratisation of the power structure followed by the increasing apathy of the electorate.

It is also important the benefits of European civil society as the closest model to follow based on history, common moral values and mentality.

It assumes that the central figure of each film will be one actual person. This may be the head of a provincial municipality, the Mayor of a major city, a regional governor or a parliamentary deputy as well as persons from the legislative administration and different grades of civil servants.

The interesting point is his interaction with the people and his ability to satisfy the needs of ordinary people who have placed their trust directly or indirectly in his official function.

Many problems stem from the basic incompetence of local power structures, the inability to rule and the absence of responsibility to the electorate. It is precisely the increased quality in the municipalities' work that will assist the emergence of the country from economic crisis and, as a result, a general rise in the standard of life of the average citizen.

We believe that such projects will help to narrow the gap between Society and its Power structures and assist in the creation of a really effective Civil Society on the basis of a positive motivation of the whole social spectrum, to increase the political activity in the population at all levels of the election processes. This will increase the people's responsibility for the future of the country, region, hometown or village.
